He was selected as a young leader in Vision 2020 to lead in the field as a young interventional cardiologist. He has performed many first-in-patient cardiac device implants in Arizona and is a leading structural interventional cardiologist in the region performing cutting edge minimally invasive cardiac procedures in the fields of interventional cardiology and structural heart.

Dr. Evans completed his residency at the University of Arizona where he served as chief resident and obtained his advanced perioperative transesophageal echocardiography certification through the American Society of Echocardiography. Nadira Hamid, MD recently joined the Minneapolis Heart Institute and the Cardiovascular Imaging Research Center at MHIF. She's a non-invasive, board certified cardiologist who specializes in Echocardiography. She is board certified in both echocardiography and cardiac computed tomography. Dr. Hamid graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (Dublin). She completed her postgraduate degrees with the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland (MRCPI) and Royal College of Physicians in United Kingdom (MRCP UK). She completed her residencies in Dublin, Ireland and then went on to complete her cardiology fellowship at the National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) in Singapore. She also has research training and completed her Master of Clinical Investigation (MCI) from the National University of Singapore. I completed my Cardiology and Electrophysiology training at the University of Pennsylvania where I stayed on faculty for nine years. I was recruited to Tucson in 2016 as the Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology program at banner University Medical Center in Tucson in the University of Arizona College of Medicine Tucson. I founded the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship at the University of Arizona in 2019 and served as the fellowship Program Director until 2023. I have served as the interim director of the cardiovascular service line at BUMCT for the past year, and as the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations for the Department of Medicine over the past six months. I maintain a busy Cardiac Electrophysiology practice focusing on complex ablation.

Raj Janardhan, MD, MRCP, FACC, FASE

After undergraduate medical training in India, Dr. Janardhanan had extensive clinical and research training in the United Kingdom in Non-Invasive Cardiology with Dr. Roxy Senior and Avijit Lahiri. After completion of the Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) diploma, he chose to move to the US in 2004 when he was offered the position of Clinical Project Director of the Echocore lab at the Brigham and Womens’ Hospital, Harvard University to work with the renowned Dr. Marc Pfeffer and Scott Solomon. He completed clinical cardiology fellowship at the University of Virginia, followed by training in advanced multi-modality non-invasive imaging working with Drs. Christopher Kramer, George Beller and John Dent. He has been involved in multicenter trials and presented lectures nationally and internationally. Dr. Janardhanan is fully certified in echocardiography with a Diplomate in adult comprehensive echocardiography as well as Fellowship of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE). This is the highest level of recognition in the field of echocardiography. His area of expertise includes 3-Dimensional echocardiography and has been nominated as an Editorial Board member for 3D echocardiography for the ASE. He has a special interest in imaging in structural heart disease and interventional 3D-TEE during transcatheter and intra-operative procedures. In addition to advanced training in cardiac CT and board certification in nuclear cardiology, he has Level 3 training in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR). He has a passion for teaching and an ardent advocate for improving effective communication with patients and families. He is involved in several non-profit charitable organizations to improve global heathcare.

Raj Makkar, MD

Raj Makkar, MD is a world-renowned leading expert in interventional cardiology and is one of the most widely cited researchers on the management of valvular heart disease. He has performed the greatest number of transcatheter valve implantation (TAVI) procedures in the world and has led the field in advancing the procedure to ensure the best outcomes for patients. In 2020, he performed the most transcatheter mitral valve repair procedures with the MitraClip system in the United States and is the national principal investigator for mitral valve replacement research studies. He has authored over 500 manuscripts, abstracts and book chapters in peer-reviewed literature including practice-changing contributions in the New England Journal of Medicine and the Lancet. He has lectured extensively around the world and regularly performs live case transmissions for major international conferences to demonstrate cutting-edge interventional cardiology techniques to a world-wide audience. His research interests focus on novel transcatheter therapies to treat structural heart disease, with a focus on studies that directly demonstrate improvements in patient outcomes. Since 2010, he has been the Stephen R. Corday Chair in Interventional Cardiology at Cedars-Sinai and has led the clinical program and trained over 50 fellows both from within the United States and internationally.

He is also a Clinical Professor at Creighton University School of Medicine in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Naik completed his medicine and cardiology training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed an advanced interventional and structural fellowship at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California in 2010. Dr Naik is an Interventional Cardiologist with specialized clinical and research interests in structural heart disease as well as complex percutaneous coronary intervention requiring new technologies in mechanical support. In regard to structural heart disease he has a large volume of expertise in transcatheter aortic, mitral, and tricuspid replacement and repair therapies, left atrial appendage closure, PFO/ASD/VSD and perivalvular leak closure. Dr. Devi G Nair, MD, FACC, FHRS is the Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology at St. Bernards Medical Center, Jonesboro, Arkansas. Dr. Nair completed her medical training at the University of Kerala, India followed by Residency at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, St. Luke's Roosevelt Campus. She completed her Cardiology and Electrophysiology Fellowships at Case Western Reserve University, Metro Health Campus. Her clinical practice focuses on heart rhythm disorders, cardiac ablation, pacemakers, defibrillators, and left atrial appendage occlusion therapy. In addition to her clinical and research practices, she is well published and actively participates in multiple clinical trials. Dr. Nair has won the People's Choice award for the best cardiologist in Jonesboro for the last 5 years. Dr. Nair has served as the Chair and Vice-Chair for the HRS Membership Subcommittee for the last 4 years. She is on the governing board of the Arkansas chapter of the ACC.

William O’Neill, MD, FACC, MSCAI

Dr. O’Neill, is an internationally recognized leader in Interventional Cardiology and Structural Heart Disease, as well as a pioneer in research and new techniques to diagnose and treat heart disease. Dr. O’Neill is one of the few Master Fellows out of 4,500 world-wide members of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (MSCAI), the professional medical society for invasive and interventional cardiologists. He pioneered the use of angioplasty for treatment of heart attacks, which is now the mainstay therapy throughout the world. He has been working on new catheter-based treatments of structural heart disease, and performed the first transcaval aortic valve replacement (TAVR) through a catheter in the U.S. in 2005. Currently he is organizing new protocols to treat a deadly side-effect of massive heart attacks. The Detroit Cardiogenic Shock Initiative increases patient survival rate from 50% to 76%. A leader in academic and teaching hospitals for nearly 30 years, and to date, an author of more than 450 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts published in medical literature, Dr. O’Neill has written multiple book chapters, and edited one of the first textbooks in the field of interventional cardiology. He was a founding member of the American Board of Internal Medicine interventional cardiology board, which certifies all interventional cardiologists. Dr. O’Neill has received multiple awards and recognitions in his career. They include: America's Top Doctors; Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Seymour Gordon Award for Distinguished Achievement, Michigan Chapter, American Heart Association. He was also the founding chair, Innovation in Intervention Summit, of the American College of Cardiology. He is the former executive dean for Research, Research Training and Innovative Medicine, and CEO for Research at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Previous positions include corporate chief of Cardiology at William Beaumont Hospital, as well as director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory and associate professor of medicine at the University of Michigan Hospital. A graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine, where he was a resident, Dr. O’Neill completed a cardiology fellowship at the University of Michigan Hospital.

Paul Mahoney

Michael Reardon, MD

Michael Reardon, M.D., grew up in Houston, Texas, where he attended Baylor College of Medicine graduating with honors. He completed a 5-year general surgery residency under Dr. Michael DeBakey in the Baylor Affiliated Hospitals and a 2-year cardiothoracic residency under Dr. Denton Cooley at the Texas Heart Institute. He has started and run his own private practice as well as served on the fulltime faculty of Baylor College of Medicine where he was Professor of Surgery, Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Program Director of the Cardiothoracic Residency and Vice Chair of Academic Affairs in the Department of Surgery. He has spent his entire career at the Houston Methodist Hospital serving in numerous administrative positions including President of the Medical Staff. He serves as the Weill Cornell Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Allison Family Distinguished Chair of Cardiovascular Research at the Houston Methodist Hospital. He is the national surgery PI for the SURTAVI, Evolut Low-Risk, Reprise III, Portico NG, Vantage and Acurate TAVR trials. He is the national study chair for the ARISE type A stent graft and Cephea TMVR EFS trials. He has written over 800 plus medical and scientific papers, book chapters and abstracts and frequently lectures nationally and internationally on his research and clinical interests of cardiac valvular disease, thoracic aortic disease and cardiac tumors. He has been married for 48 years to Robin and has 2 daughters and 3 granddaughters and 1 grandson. His research interests include transcatheter and open structural heart disease therapy, thoracic aortic therapy and cardiac tumors.

Manny Reyes, MD

Dr. Manny Reyes received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. He then completed medical school, internal medicine residency, both general and interventional cardiology fellowships at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center. He currently practices in the multidisciplinary cardiovascular team of Houston Cardiovascular Associates and is affiliated with Houston Methodist Hospital. Texas Monthly and Houstonia Magazine have repeatedly named him among Houston’s Top Doctors. Dr. Reyes is an active interventional practitioner and performs hundreds of catheter procedures every year. He is an active investigator in multiple clinical investigations with major research interests in structural heart disease, transcatheter valve therapies, including non-surgical, percutaneous repair of the mitral valve, catheter based aortic valve replacement, shunt closure for congenital heart disease, complex coronary artery disease, complex peripheral arterial disease.

Dr. Oscar Rosales Is Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas McGovern School of Medicine and Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories at the Heart and Vascular Institute, Memorial Hermann Hospital Texas Medical Center. Dr. Rosales is the Founder and President of Houston Center for Vascular Health, a non-profit research foundation. This research foundation is dedicated to the development and application of new techniques and technologies for the treatment and prevention of Peripheral Arterial Disease, Critical Limb Ischemia and Coronary Artery Disease. It is currently conducting several funded research studies. Dr. Rosales received his medical degree from Javeriana University, Bogota, Colombia, and then went on to complete his residency training in Internal Medicine at Tulane University, and Cardiovascular Fellowship at the University of Texas Medical School.

Paul Sorajja, MD

Dr. Paul Sorajja is an interventional cardiologist at the Minneapolis Heart Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, where he is the Director of the Center for Valve and Structural Heart Disease, and is the Roger L. and Lynn C. Headrick Family Chair of the Valve Science Center for the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation. He received his medical degree from Mayo Medical School, and completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Cardiology Fellowship at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. During 1998-99, he was a clinical research fellow in myopathy at St. George's Hospital in London, UK. Dr. Sorajja joined the Mayo Clinic staff in 2006, achieving the rank of Professor of Medicine in 2012. In 2013, Dr. Sorajja joined the Minneapolis Heart Institute. Dr. Sorajja's clinical practice specializes in interventional cardiology, with a focus on catheter-based therapy of valvular and structural heart disease. He was part of the team that performed the first transcatheter mitral valve replacement in the U.S. for a patient with native mitral regurgitation in 2015, and has the highest worldwide experience with TMVR. Dr. Sorajja has published over 200 manuscripts and book chapters, with expertise in cardiac hemodynamics, clinical education, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and percutaneous therapy of structural heart disease. He has served in leadership positions in multiple national societies, and is a founding Board member of the Cardiovascular Innovations Foundation (cvinnovations.org<http://cvinnovations.org). Dr. Sorajja has been an editor-in-chief for numerous textbooks on cardiac catheterization. He has served as a program director for interventional cardiology fellowships, and has received awards for his expertise in medical education. In 2017, he received the Robert G. Hauser Award for Leadership Excellence in Innovation from the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation. Dr. Sorajja is also highly active in intellectual property development.

Prior to joining TVH, I served as a member of the Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health Structural Heart Integrated Leadership Group. I am involved as a Principal Investigator in several ongoing national research trials, have authored a number of book chapters, peer-reviewed publications and am considered an international authority on alternative vascular access. I have been an active Physician proctor in Complex coronary intervention using mechanical circulatory support and transcatheter heart valve replacement since 2017. I was named a Future Leader of TAVR in 2014, Young Leader in Interventional Cardiology in 2018, and Master Faculty for the Coronary Artery and Myocardial Protected PCI Initiative in 2020.

Dr. Poonam Velagapudi is a Structural Interventional Cardiologist, Assistant Professor of Medicine and Associate Program Director for Cardiovascular Medicine fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Her clinical interests include high risk PCI, mechanical circulatory support in shock, radial and large bore access, percutaneous transcatheter valve procedures including TAVR, TMVR, and MitraClip. She also has a strong interest in education, advocacy and increasing/promoting participation of women in clinical trials. She is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), Chair of the ACC Early Career Section, Past Chair of the ACC Fellows in Training Section, and Co-Chair of the SCAI Membership Committee. She is a strong proponent of using social media for fostering education in cardiology and serves as a social media editor for ‘JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions’ journal. She is also an Associate Editor for the European Heart Journal (EHJ)- Case Reports journal and an editorial board member for JSCAI and JACC: Advances journals.

Brian Whisenant, MD

Dr. Brian Whisenant is an interventional cardiologist and director of the Intermountain Heart Institute Structural Heart Disease program. A graduate of Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Whisenant trained in internal medicine at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He completed fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology at the University of California San Francisco, and an additional fellowship in interventional cardiology at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He was a faculty member at UCSD and the University of Utah prior to coming to Intermountain in 2005.

Fleming is a licensed insurance agent with over 36 years of experience in Life, Health, Estate Preservation and Retirement Insurance. For much of his career, he has been offering insurance in Valdosta, GA. He is a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Round Table and Court of the Table and has served on several insurance boards. In September of 2018, Fleming acquired the ownership of the Remerton Agency DBA Star Insurance.

Fleming graduated from Brunswick High School, Brunswick, GA. and attended Brunswick College. He is recognized as a Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF®) and is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). Fleming has also been a past President of Life Underwriters of Valdosta and served on other chairs for the association.

Fleming has served as President of the Valdosta Bulldog Club and also on the board of several non-profit organizations in the Valdosta area. He is married to the former Kaye Chastain of Moultrie, GA and they have four sons; John Fleming, William, Wesley and Wilson and two grandchildren. They are members of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church
